Community Education

The Whistle Stop is committed to educating the community about the needs of children in foster care and those involved in high conflict divorce or custody litigation.  Each year, the Whistle Stop presents a Seminar on a related topic.  Our programs are designed to comply with the Louisiana Supreme Court's ruling that relates to attorneys who are appointed to represent children in Abuse and Neglect cases.  This ruling requires that these attorneys have at least 6 hours of continuing education credits annually in issues that are associated with abused and neglected children.

Our seminars are approved for continuing education credits by the Louisiana Bar Association, NASW - the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and LPC (Licensed Professional Counselors).

This Seminar is usually presented in late November at the Pioneer Club.  It is an all-day training that includes workbook and hand-out materials, breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  Anyone interested in additional information, please contact the Whistle Stop at 337-562-2344.

In 2008, the Whistle Stop is also presenting a training on the Effects of Foster Care on Children.  It will be presented for the Office of Community Services staff and Foster Parents.  A similar program will also be presented to Counselors in the Calcasieu Parish Schools.  Sam Armer, L.C.S.W. will facilitate the program.

Finally, our staff speaks at church functions and to community groups.  If you are interested in scheduling a speaker for your group, please contact the Whistle Stop for more information.
